The Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe (SPSEE), as well as the organisation that will further replace it, will support Moldova as much as it will be possible, Erhard Busek, SPSEE Special Coordinator told a briefing on Tuesday, January 30. “Moldova is a part of the South Eastern Europe. This is why we have to make everything possible to get it closer to the European Union” – Busek stated. At the same time he specified that the efforts of the European community must be supported by Moldova, which in its turn must get closer to EU, the European official said. Busek mentioned that the German presidency of EU focuses its attention over the region of the Black Sea. “This is a great chance for Moldova, which is the most eastern EU neighbour country of the region”, the cited source said. Referring to the Action Plan Moldova-EU, Busek said that after it will be finished, he hopes another specific document will be signed with Moldova. The document should take into consideration the difficult situation within EU and the negotiations between the two parties. Busek announced that the Stability Pact will conclude its activity soon and will transfer its competences to a new regional structure – the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), which will start its activity in 2008. The deputy-minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Valeriu Ostalep said that Moldova intends to take over the presidency of SPSEE in the near future. During his visit to Chisinau Erhard Buske met with President Vladimir Voronin, PM Vasile Tarlev and minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Stratan.
