The fourth graders of 17 education institutions of Moldova will study the optional subject “Culture of good neighborhood” as of September 1. The intercultural education notebook that will be distributed to students was presented on August 25 within a seminar to train 30 tutors to teach the course that was organized by the Educational Center “Pro Didactica”, IPN reports.
Viorica Goras-Postica, vice director of “Pro Didactica”, said the optional course is piloted for the fourth consecutive year. Earlier, the given subject was studied by first, second and third graders. The intercultural education notebook was worked out based on a curriculum coordinated with the authorities and the teachers of the 17 schools where the subject will be piloted receive the program of the course in the training seminars.
“The notebook was conceived in the form of trips. This year it is entitled “My country – my pride”. The notebooks will help the children learn about their country and how to be good neighbors. This year we close the primary cycle. The preliminary results show the subject should be studied in all the schools and parents and children asked for this,” stated Viorica Goras-Postica.
“The subject is designed to help the children learn and prepare to establish nice relations with friends, colleagues and neighbors. Last year we taught this subject to third graders. The children want such a course. They prepare the homework assiduously in this subject,” said Angela Pshinichnyi, teacher of the Soroca Theoretical Lyceum “Ion Creanga”.
The notebooks and training program for teachers are thought up within the project “Education for peace through the promotion of the culture of good neighborhood in primary classes” that is implemented with financial support fromthe international peace-building network. The notebooks are in Romanian and Russian.
