New national radio station director appointed

The “Teleradio-Moldova” Company’s Supervisory Board (SB) has appointed Veaceslav Gheorghisenco as director of the national radio station on Friday, June 8. Gheorghisenco, the incumbent head of the Programmes Department in the same company, was elected by a secret vote of 7 out of 7 SB members present. Other applicants were Victor Tabarta, the incumbent director of the station, Nicu Scorpan, producer at “Moldova 1” TV station, and Ghenadie Brega (Hyde-Park NGO). On Friday, after the audition of his concept on the company’s development, Scorpan dropped out off the competition, saying that its regulations failed to list the competition requirements. He also said that a leading office in the company requires a certain political weight, which he lacks. After Scorpan’s withdrawal, the SB members took a 30 min break, followed by new interviews and by the concluding vote later. Freshly appointed, Gheorghisenco stated that his first step will be to make the staffers understand that they are all a team, from director to reporter. He also declared that he wishes to endow the national radio station with modern equipment so that it becomes credible. When asked whether his appointment was politically endorsed, Gheorghisenco said that he knows nothing of these things and that they are only rumours. Earlier, the SB held another contest for the respective office, which had 5 applicants. Neither of them was chosen because 7 SB members voted against all, and 2 ballots were invalidated. The president of the public company “Teleradio-Moldova” and the director of the “Moldova 1” have been chosen then.
