“We ask the OSCE to provide consistent and constructive support in solving the Transnistrian conflict and insist that, together with Russia, we identify practical solutions to the dispute, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova,” Moldova’s Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said during a meeting with a delegation of the OSCE, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Parliament. Mihai Ghimpu said that the government program of the Alliance for European Integration envisions public policies and adjustment measures aimed at stopping the economic decline, encouraging the economic recovery, ensuring the supremacy of the law and implementation of democratic reforms so as to reach the European standards as soon as possible. The democratization of Moldova will constitute an attractive model for the residents of Transnistria and this will strengthen trust between the two banks of the Nistru. “The reintegration of the country remains a priority for Moldova. We will continue making effort at the internal and foreign levels so as to definitively resolve the Transnistrian dispute by preserving the intentionally recognized borders,” Mihai Ghimpu stressed. “I think there are all the preconditions and necessary capacities to resume the talks in the 5+2 format for identifying a viable solution in the interests of the Moldovan people. This solution must unite the people that live on the two banks of the Nistru,” Prime Minister Vlad Filat said during a separate meeting with the OSCE delegation. Attending the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration matters Victor Osipov said that the new Moldovan administration will pursue more open and flexible policies so as to find solutions to the Transnistrian dispute. The OSCE delegation was headed by Charalambos Christopolous, the special representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office. It came to Chisinau to collect facts about the Transnistria conflict settlement process and analyze the prospects.
