The new representatives of the Local Council of Children and Youth met on September 29 at a founding meeting where they familiarized themselves with the Council's regulations, Info-Prim Neo reports. “You will acquire new skills while working in a team and will make new friends. You will be able to show all your abilities and attitudes here and put into practice ideas that are of interest to any person of your age,” said Valentina Sandu, the head of the Teens' Center of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport. “When working on the Local Council of Children and Youth, the young persons can develop abilities of responsible citizens and members of the community, which can remain in the shadow in the education process in schools and in the family,” Valentina Sandu said. The former 'mayor' of the Council Ion Tasca, who is a twelfth grader at the Theoretical High School ”Nicolae Iorga” in Chisinau, said that he developed leadership skills while working on the Council and wished the new members good luck and success. “You must be ready to work and learn and to form a team. The previous team formulated many ideas during two years. You have the chance of continuing what we started. On the Council, you will do things that you can read in no book,” Tasca told the new members. At the next meeting of the Council, the new representatives must elect a mayor who will represent them, two deputy mayors and a secretary and to start creating the five specialized commissions. Every quarter, the young people will participate in a seminar themed “The Young Councilor's School” and will get acquainted with the public administration system in Moldova. They could also attend meetings of the mayor general of Chisinau, the specialized commissions and of the Municipal Council. The Local Council of Children and Youth allows the children and young people to assert themselves and to implement projects that meet the necessities and interests of the community. The members of the Council engage in community development and strengthen the young people's role as citizens in the present and the future. The members are delegated by the institutions where they study.
