New local mayoral elections are taking place in ten settlements of the Republic of Moldova on November 19, 2017. These are: Sangera town of Chisinau municipality, Berlinti village of Briceni district, Zarnesti commune of Cahul, Plopi commune of Cantemir, Stefanesti commune of Floresti, Fundurii Noi village of Glodeni, Lapusna village of Hancesti, Sarateni commune of Leova, Capriana commune of Straseni and Ghiliceni commune of Telenesti, IPN reports.
According to the Central Election Commission, 26 candidates – five women and 21 men - are running for mayoralty in the ten communities. Four are independent candidates, while 22 were fielded by political parties. The district electoral councils of Sangera and Berlinti registered the largest number of candidates – six and, respectively, four.
Three candidates are running for mayoralty in Capriana and Ghiliceni, by two in Zarnesti, Stefanesti, Fundurii Noi and Sarateni and one candidate in Plopi and Lapusna.
