New local mayoral elections will take place in Zăicani village of Râșcani district on May 15. The decision was taken by the Central Election Commission following the death of the village’s mayor, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, CEC secretary Alexandr Berlinschi said that earlier the Commission set new local mayoral elections for another eight localities.
In Zastânca village of Soroca district, in Ghetlova village of Orhei district, in Tătărești village of Strășeni district and in Glinjeni village of Fălești distrctit, the post of mayor fell vacant following the death of the mayor, while in Moara de Piatră village of Drochia district and in Horodiște village of Rezina district, the mayor resigned.
Also, in Păulești village of Călărași district and in Alexandrești commune of Râșcani district, the post fell vacant due to the impossibility of fulfilling the duties of mayor during over four consecutive months.
The decision by which new local mayoral elections were set in Alexandrești was challenged. By today’s decision, CEC rejected the preliminary application and the person who filed the challenge is to go to court.
The Central Election Commission has also examined the notification of the mayor of Lozova village of Strășeni district by which he warns that the local council during the past six months hasn’t adopted any decision and there are reasons for dissolving this and calling new local elections to elect councilors. The Commission will consider the issue at its next meeting.
