New local mayoral elections will take place in Negurenii Vechi village of Ungheni district on May 16. A decision to this effect was taken by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on January 19, IPN reports.

CEC vice president Vladimir Șarban said the mayor’s term in office ended earlier owing to his death on December 21.

Earlier, the CEC decided that new local mayoral elections will be held on May 16 also in Hârtop commune of Cimișlia district.

Under the electoral legislation, new local elections are held at most twice a year, in spring and in autumn.
