New local elections will be held in four villages of Moldova simultaneously with the presidential elections on October 30. The inhabitants of Iserlia village of Basarabeasca district, Bucuria village of Cahul district, Galaseni village of Rascani district and Galesti village of Straseni district will choose their mayors. Also, the residents of Pitusca village of Calarasi district will take part in a local referendum on the dismissal of the mayor, IPN reports.
The Central Election Commission said the terms in office of the mayors of Iserlia and Galaseni ended before time in connection with their death. In Bucuria the mayor tendered his resignation, while in Galesti the post fell vacant in connection with the impossibility of fulfilling the duties of mayor on health grounds.
The CEC decided to set the date of new local elections and of the local referendum concurrently with the presidential elections in order to optimize the costs associated with the organization and holding of these events.
