The State Information Resources Center “Registru” started to produce new license plates. The old ones will be used until the vehicle owners decide to buy new plates or to reregister their cars, IPN reports.

“Registru” director Sergiu Railean told a news conference that the new license plates have more advanced security elements than the current plates. The font of the letters and digits on the plate was also changed. Another novelty is the fact that there will be three letters, regardless of the district and place of residence of the vehicle owner.

The standard number of digits is three, but if the drivers want personalized license numbers, they can asks for two or three digits, but there will always be three letters.

The price of a pair of license plates is 480 lei, while of one plate (for motorcycles and trailers) is 270 lei.
