New irrigation system installed in “Mihai Eminescu” square in Chisinau

A new irrigation system covering all the trees in “Mihai Eminescu” square in central Chisinau capital was set up. The trees were planted at the end of last year, replacing the old trees in the area, IPN reports.

“Workers of the municipal enterprise “Green Spaces Management Association” installed drainage tubes at the roots of all large-leaved linden trees. Their function is to capture rainwater and direct it directly to the root system," the Chisinau City Hall said.

Almost 20 linden trees were planted in December in “Mihai Eminescu” square after the old trees were cut down by employees of the “Green Spaces Management Association”. The new trees are of the Tilia platyphyllus species.

The renovation of “Mihai Eminescu” square began three years ago, but soon the trees began to dry. According to specialists, it happened because the water could not penetrate down to the roots of the trees due to the pavement installed in the square.
