Sergiu Munteanu has been appointed acting Commissioner of the Bălți Police Inspectorate by a decree of Iurie Podarilov, head of the General Police Inspectorate.

Senior Commissioner Sergiu Munteanu has been with Ministry of the Interior since 1996 and prior to this held the position of head of the Bălți Inspectorate’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Interior Minister Ana Revenco stated that it is important for each MoI employee to get involved with professionalism and devotion in his or her segment of activity so that the citizens feel safe.

Bălți Commissioner Valeriu Cojocaru was suspended on September 20 in connection with the case of Directorate no. 5. On October 7, six former police officers of the now disbanded Directorate no. 5 were placed under preventive arrest for their alleged role in the jailing of whistleblower-turned-politician Gheorghe Petic on fake rape charges.
