New inscription in Latin on Chisinau’s foundation stone

The foundation stone of Chisinau city that is situated on Albisoara St, at the intersection with Pushkin St, was renovated and has a new inscription in Latin, meaning the foundation place of Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. Initially, the stone installed in the 1980s had an inscription in Cyrillic. It was renovated and unveiled three days before the City’s Day. The works cost the local budget 20,000 lei. Attending the unveiling event, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the place where the stone was put is the foundation place of the city. “Chisinau started to be built from here, from near the Church “Mazarache”. Chisinau was first attested on July 17, 1436,” stated the mayor. Dorin Chirtoaca also said that they are considering the possibility of laying out this place in a style close to the historical-archeological ideas of that period. Deputy chief architect of Chisinau Nicon Zaporojan said a Dacian hill was earlier in the place where there is the foundation stone, while the Church “Mazarache” was built on the ruins of a castle. Many years ago, the commercial roads crossed this area and there were many mills and the Albisoara well. The foundation stone of Chisinau was installed in 1986.
