The hearing in the case of ex-Premier Vlad Filat set for March 24 was postponed. Contacted by IPN, acting anticorruption prosecutor Adrian Popenco said the hearing was put off at the request of the defense, but refused to provide more details.
The defendant’s lawyer Igor Popa has told IPN that Vlad Filat is involved in a ten-day treatment course and thus could not come to the hearing. The next hearing was scheduled for March 29, 10:30am.
Earlier, a number of hearings in this case were postponed at the request of the defense. On March 16, the accused was examined at the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery as he hit his head against a door in his cell, as the lawyer said.
Vlad Filat was deprived of parliamentary immunity and arrested on charges of passive corruption and influence peddling on October 15, 2015. He faces 7 to 15 years in jail and ban on holding particular public posts. Vlad Filat pleads not guilty.
