The new Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova Janis Mazeiks arrives in Chisinau today, September 2, IPN reports.
In a post made from Riga Airport, the official said that after 26 years at the Latvian diplomatic service, he is leaving for a while to join the EU Delegation in Moldova. “Looking forward to busy and exciting time in Moldova!” said Janis Mazeiks.
A career diplomat, Janis Mazeiks was Under-Secretary of State, Political Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. He served as Latvian Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe (2002 – 2005) and as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva (2007 – 2011), representing also Latvia at the World Trade Organization. Besides Latvian, he is fluent in English, French and Danish.
Janis Mazeiks succeeds Slovak official Peter Mihalko as the Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, who took up his duties in May 2017. Peter Michalko will now head the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan.
