Patrolling inspectors will receive Chinese gadgets to transmit in real time data from the place of a road accident and to scan license plates when vehicles are parked illegally, IPN reports.

In the ceremony to sign the Technical Acceptance Certificate of the consignment of devices, Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean said that owing to the contribution of the Government of China, with the implementation of the video road traffic surveillance project, the number of road accidents fell by 40%, while of bodily injuries and deaths in such accidents by 60%.

The Chinese donation includes 900 smart phones, 100 tablet PCs, 100 laptops and 200 computers. According to the minister, the new devices will allow reducing the time needed for documenting traffic accidents.

“We feel the responsibility of cooperating further with the Ministry of the Interior so as to achieve new objectives set by both of the peoples. The automation of the road traffic control system is a tendency in international transport management and I want to note that in this area China and Moldova cooperate successfully. The project turned out to be efficient and produced good results. We are convinced that the new equipment will play an important role in facilitating traffic in Moldova,” said Chinese Ambassador in Chisinau Tong Mingtao.

The head of the Video Traffic Monitoring and Control Center of the Ministry of the Interior’s Information Technology Service Dan Chirita said the smart phones and tablet PCs contain a special application by which the inspectors will transmit in real time data for documenting the road accident from the place of the accident to the office. The patrolling inspectors will also document cases of illegal parking. The drivers who break the traffic rules will be informed about the violation by a document left on the windscreen, which will be accompanied by pictures.

At the end of the event, Dorin Recean thanked the Government of Chine for assistance provided in reforming the Ministry and handed over the Title of Honor of the Ministry of the Interior to Tong Mingtao and the Ministry’s Merit Cross to the Embassy’s economic adviser Xu Tongkai.
