More than 120,000 annual flowers and about 40 tonnes of gravel have been used to make new floral arrangements on the main arteries of Chisinau. Contacted by IPN, deputy head of the Green Arrears Managing Association Galina Leahu said there were used over 12 tonnes of colored gravel - mauve, red, and beige – and 29 tonnes of white gravel.
The municipality allocated over 1.4 million lei for purchasing materials and plants and for carrying out the arrangement works. The flower circles occupy an area of over 62,000 square meters.
According to Galina Leahu, the floral displays of this kind are a novelty for Chisinau. The idea was put forward by the Association’s employees. The Internet was also a source of inspiration.
However, the high temperatures pose a threat as the flowers need to be watered at least once in two days. “We will determine what flowers are less resistant to drought and will not plant them the next year,” said Galina Leahu.
The new floral arrangements can be seen near historical monuments. There were planted 17 types of flowers, bought at an auction.
