The National Emergency Pre-Hospital Medical Assistance Center was outfitted with medical devices for medical assistance teams. The lot was provided by the World Health Organization Country Office in the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. Department of State, IPN reports.

According to emergencies coordinator at the WHO Country Office in the Republic of Moldova Stela Gheorghiță, the equipment can be connected to information systems and this enables to obtain data in real time. The purchase of the equipment is part of the emergency response measures associated with the rise in the number of refugees in the Republic of Moldova. The equipment will help to strengthen the health system of the Republic of Moldova. Besides buying equipment, the WHO invests in the updating of standard procedures, the algorithms by which the doctor during a short period of time can take a decision to provide medical assistance.

U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Kent Logsdon said the medical assistance is a priority for refugees and for the Moldovan citizens and its provision in an emergency way can make the difference between life and death. The equipment that was supplied by the WHO and was purchased with US$400,000 that was provided by the Government of the United States will play an important role in supporting the Moldovan refugees and citizens. “The United States is proud to have financed a number of medical assistance projects in Moldova to extend access to these services for everyone, including for the Ukrainians who flee from Russia’s brutal aggression,” stated the diplomat.

“Owing to the support offered by the United States in partnership with the World Health Organization, which is our main partner in the health system, it was possible to purchase this equipment that is very important for our ambulances, for the intervention teams that most often get to a patient in a serous state the first. The provision of a more advanced service at the scene or during transportation up to a specialized medical institution is very important for increasing the possibility not only of saving life, but also of improving the state of health of the parent,” said secretary of state of the Ministry of Health Ion Prisăcaru.

The medical devices will be distributed to emergency medical assistance teams all over the country. The donation consists of electrocardiographs, lung ventilators for patients in a critical state and portable ultrasound devices for examining patients with serious diseases and those with abdomen and chest injuries and other medical emergencies with a major impact.
