A call-up campaign will take place in the Transnistrian region between April 1 and August 10, 2013, under an order made by the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk, IPN reports.
”The people aged between 18 and 27 who live in the eastern settlements of the country, are citizens of Moldova or other states will be called up and obliged, in breach of the Constitution of Moldova and international treaties, to take an oath of allegiance to an illegal and anti-constitutional regime,” the jurist of Promo-LEX Association AlexandruZubco has told IPN.
According to the jurist, those who avoid the draft are being looked for, arrested at checkpoints, sentenced to two years’ imprisonment or fined up to US$600. Those who cannot do the military service for religious, pacifistic, humanitarian, ethical or moral reasons are in a similar situation.
Promo-LEXis a nongovernmental, apolitical and non-profit organization that promotes the recognized democratic values and international standards in the area of human rights in Moldova, including Transnistria.
