A new mission that will sterilize about 1,000 stray dogs during two weeks is to come to Chisinau in about a week. These are stray dogs and dogs with masters who will be neutered free of charge, IPN reports.
In the May 13 meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions, acting mayor of Chisinau Ruslan Codreanu said the mission belongs to a global organization and consists of about 15 persons who will train local specialists. By about 100 dogs are to be sterilized daily. At a veterinary clinic, sterilization costs 700 to 1,000 lei. The mission members will spay dogs for free. “We are ready to provide transport to animal lovers so as to take the dogs to and from the sterilization center,” stated the official.
According to him, this is the second sterilization mission this year. The first mission came from Romania. Two more missions will follow. “Why is this activity important for our municipality? Because the situation was allowed to worsen for many years. The pets hadn’t been sterilized and now these can be seen on the streets in large numbers,” noted the acting mayor.
Ruslan Codreanu called on the persons who own dogs to come and have them neutered.
A dog sterilization center was opened in Chisinau at the end of last October, with the municipality investing about 400,000 lei in it. A team from Romania that came to Chisinau this March managed to sterilize about 150 dogs.
