New disinfectant improves water quality in Chisinau

The quality of water in the Chisinau's pipes improved after the disinfectant was changed. The announcement was made by the head of the Municipal Center for Public Health Constantin Ramis at the City Hall's meeting on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Compared to 2011, the results of lab tests are better. “We checked 36 control points. The lab results show that the quality corresponds to microbiological and chemical-sanitary standards”, said Ramis. Deputy technical director of Apa-Canal Chisinau Vitalie Midari informed that ACC lab tests confirmed the quality of water had improved. Vitalie Midari added that consumers would be able to say their opinion about the new disinfectant used in the municipal aqueduct in a poll typed on their May bills. The new station that treats water with sodium hypochlorite was put into operation on April 12. According to the water utility, water previously met all standards, but the new disinfectant is simply better. It also removed the smell of chlorine in water. Sodium hypochlorite has a large range of actions in fighting micro-flora in water. As a result, the biofilm in some pipes, made of harmful bacteria and microorganisms, will be eliminated in the next 3-4 months.
