A new acting director was named at Penitentiary No. 13. Tudor Morari, who replaced Andrei Saracuța, on December 5 appealed against the court judgment by which ex-Premier Vlad Filat was set free to the Appeals Court.

The new acting director of the National Administration of Penitentiaries Vladimir Cojocaru, who was appointed on December 4, proposed Teodor Morari as a candidate and the minister of justice confirmed this to the post.

Contacted by IPN, spokesman for the National Administration of Penitentiaries Oleg Pantea said the new acting director of Penitentiary No. 13 filed an appeal by which he requested to suspend the implementation of the decision to release Vlad Filat on parole for the reason that particular conditions weren’t allegedly met.

Vlad Filat was released on parole on December 3, after serving four years in jail. In a news conference held the next day, Filat said the release procedure was perfectly legal. “I would be very surprised if the institution that submitted a judicious application for release on parole, based on which a court judgment was passed, after a period of time, not accidentally after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council, will change its position and will file a new appeal. This would be a test if you want,” stated the former Prime Minister.
