New digital maps of forests in Moldova are ready for use
The new digital maps of forests in Moldova are ready for use. They have been developed with support from the ENPI Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (ENPI FLEG)- the EU Instrument for Partnership and Neighborhood, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The maps include updated pictures of forests in the country. This has been done with the participation of the Institute of Forest Research and Planning and the NGO Silva-Mileniu III.
The partner teams created a database as part of the UN program “Developing the covered area and efficiency management of the Protected Area System in Moldova (PAS) in Moldova”.
According to an ENPI FLEG press release, the program creates synergy with the PAS project and is designed to improve the protection management of Moldovan forests and to reduce the negative impact in the ecosystems of forests in diverse protection categories (natural reservations, forests reservations, trees- monuments of nature, etc.).
Thanks to cooperation efforts, all protected forest areas subjected to reevaluation will have to fit within the limits established by the planning management of maps developed by Moldosilva and ENPI FLEG.
ENPI FLEG has a €6 million budget and supports governments, civil society and the private sector in developing solid and sustainable practices of forest management, such as fighting illegal activities in forests.
