New defections from PCRM

More than 500 members of local organizations of the Party of Communists (PCRM) from eight districts of the country and from the municipality of Chisinau announced their decision to defect from the party to the Party of Socialists. The announcement was made by representatives of the local organizations in a news conference on February 8, IPN reports.

According to a statement made public in the news conference, the 500 persons are disappointed with the actions of the PCRM’s administration and consider that the leadership promoted to executive posts persons who do not deserve this.

The former Communists also said that now only the Party of Socialists represents de facto the interests of its supporters and of those who voted the Communists. According to them, namely the Socialists are the true opposition in Parliament.

Last week, MP Artur Reshetnikov, who last December left the Communist parliamentary group together with another 13 colleagues, addressed an open letter to the Communists’ leader Vladimir Voroinin, where he says that many of the Communists do not agree with the actions of the party’s administration. He noted that the members of the PCRM often expressed their dissatisfaction, but they weren’t listened to by the party’s chairman.
