Chisinau will have a pedestrian area from August 1. This is the new deadline announced by the municipality. The head of the Architecture Division Radu Blaj Monday said the pedestrian area will be built and laid out by the only economic entity that took part in the tender contest, IPN reports.
The work plan is being prepared. Under it, the pedestrian area will be named “Alley of good people”. 25% of the area will be intended for cultural-artistic activities, including craftsmen’s fairs, concerts and painting exhibitions. The sidewalk on the alley will be replaced. There will be set up benches and terraces and planted decorative trees and flowers. The façades of the buildings in the area will be lit by decorative lights at night.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked that the central part of Cosmonautilor St, up to the square of Grigore Vieru Blvd., should be an area where pedestrians are given priority. For the terraces and bars to be more accessible, the mayor suggested that the menus should be published in at least three languages, while the tourists should be given by a map of Chisinau gratis.
The laying out work will total about 5 million lei. The costs will be fully covered by a Chisinau beer producer.
The section of Alexandru Diordita St between the streets Cosmonautilor and Columna was to become pedestrian area from May 1.
