New count against businessman Veaceslav Platon

Prosecutors sent to court a case based on a new count against businessman Veaceslav Platon, who was sentenced to 18 years behind bars a month ago. The new count is considerable swindle attempt committed by an organized group, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2016 Veaceslav Platon, being the manager of three insurance companies with controlling interest in these, held through the agency of third persons, organized the stealing of money from companies’ accounts. The offender involved two more persons in the activity, but the attempt failed.

A month ago, Veaceslav Platon was sentenced to 18 years in jail and banned from holding posts in the banking system for a five-year period. He was arrested in July 2016 on charges of swindle and money laundering as a result of which damage of over 800 million lei was caused to Banca de Economii (Savings Bank). Veaceslav Platon pleads not guilty.
