New contest to select civil society representative on NIC

The applications for the post of member of the National Integrity Commission (NIC) on the part of civil society can be submitted between January 17 and 30. Such a decision was taken in the January 16 meeting of the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities, Info-Prim Neo reports. Galina Bostan, who was selected by the commission last yearend, wasn’t confirmed by Parliament in the post. The Liberal parliamentary group refused to vote for her, arguing that the NGO that she heads made mistakes in a report on the absences of MPs from the Parliament’s sittings. Two Liberal lawmakers wee mentioned in the report. Democratic MP Adrian Candu said the term of half a month for submitting applications is limited. “After we gave civil society a slap, we want to give them one more slap and to limit the time for submitting applications. I suggest that the term be extended to a month,” said Adrian Candu. But he wasn’t supported by his colleagues. The commission’s head, Liberal MP Victor Popa said that the same period of time was offered at the previous contest. Communist MP Anatolie Zagorodnyi told the press that he anticipates a boycott by civil society or a fixed contest so that the post is occupied by somebody representing a party of the ruling alliance. The candidates must present an application, the CV and the criminal record. The last contest for the post of member of the National Integrity Commission on behalf of civil society took place in November 2012.
