A new contest to fill the post of president of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) will be announced as none of the two competing candidates, judges Liliana Catan and Anatolie Țurcan, obtained the necessary votes from the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), IPN reports.
In the same meeting, the SCM elected Tamara Chișcă-Doneva as vice president of the Supreme Court of Justice. She will also head the Civil, Commercial and Administrative Disputes College of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The SCM also named another vice president of the SCJ and president of the Court’s Penal College. This is judge Nadejda Toma, who is to be presented to Parliament for confirmation.
Judge Vladislav Clima was appointed as president of the Chisinau Appeals Court. New contests will be announced to fill the posts of presidents of the Bălți Appeals Court and the Comrat Appeals Court.
During the July 28 meeting of the SCM, members of the Party of Action and Solidarity and the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform, who came together in front of the Council’s’ head office, demanded that corrupt judges should not be promoted in the system. The MPs of the PPPDA entered the SCM’s hall, interrupting the meeting and leaving black bags there (allusion to the black bag that President Igor Dodon received from the former Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc, which was presumably with money, e.n.).
