The new judge of the Constitutional Court Veaceslav Zaporojan took an oath of allegiance in the July 15 siting of Parliament, in the presence of President Nicolae Timofti. The Government nominated Veaceslav Zaporojan for the post on July 7, IPN reports.
Veaceslav Zaporojan was chosen at a contest held by a special commission and civil society supported his candidacy. During 13 years, he had worked as an assistant judge at the Constitutional Court.
The constitutional judges are nominated by Parliament, the Government and the Superior Council of Magistracy. Each of these authorities designate by two judges. The contest to select a new Constitutional Court judge was staged last autumn, after the term in office of judge Petru Railean, who was suggested by the Government in 2008, expired.
