New conditions for providing disability pension

The persons whose disability is confirmed up to the age of 23 (except for childhood disabilities) must prove that they have an insurance period (required length of service during which contributions are paid) of at least two years to be able to apply for a disability pension. The new rules form part of the pension system reform and take effect on April 1, 2017, IPN reports.

In the case of persons aged between 23 and 29, an insurance period of four years needs to be confirmed. For persons aged between 29 and 33, an insurance period of seven years is required, for those of 33-37 years – of ten years, while for those of 37-41 years – of 13. If the person is over 41 years old, the insurance period should be of at least 15 years.

Before these amendments were made, the required insurance period varied depending on the age of the person, between one and five years.

Officials of the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family said that by increasing the required insurance period, they aim to eliminate the previous practices when persons, by illegal ways, obtained a disability degree to benefit from pension and particular advantages.
