New computer work requirements for employers

The employers must plan the activities of employees who work at computer monitor so that they work with interruptions, by breaks or shifts. Such provisions are contained in the minimum security and safety at work requirements for computer work that took effect on January 1, 2017. These refer to the jobs created after this date. The jobs created before this date must be adjusted so that they meet the current requirements within one year of the mentioned date, IPN reports.

The minimum security and safety at work requirements for computer work were approved by a Government decision. The employer is to ensure ophthalmological examinations for employees at the request of the employee, at intervals set in the regulations and if the employees feel visual changes caused by work at the computer monitor. If visual changes are detected as a result of these examinations, the employer is obliged to provide correction devices and to cover all the associated costs.

Also, the monitor must rotate freely so that it could be adjusted to the needs of the employees. The keyboard must be matte so as to avoid the sparkling of reflectors. The working chair must be stable and must enable free movement and a comfortable position.

The general duration of the working day is eight hours. It is allowed working in shifts for 12 hours. To ensure optimal working conditions and maintain health, besides the mandatory breaks for lunch, additional breaks are provided during the working hours.

It is not allowed working for more than two hours at the monitor without breaks.
