New CMC group formed

Councilman Oazu Nantoi, elected on the list of the Democratic Party, has joined the councillors representing the Humanist Party, Serghei Cires and Oleg Oniscenco, to form the Humanist-Democratic group in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). Oazu Nantoi argued the new group was formed to better respond to voters’ concerns. “The humanist-democratic values are so attractive, that looking forward to 2009, when the departure of the Communist Party from the political landscape seems inevitable, more people will join our group”, Nantoi said. Oazu Nantoi was at first a member of the Democratic Group, alongside councillors Alexandru Tanase, Galina Talai and Vladimir Cotet. In September Nantoi’s faction colleagues announced their simultaneous exit from the Democratic Party and the CMC group. Later they formed the Liberal-Democratic faction and managed to obtain a Chisinau deputy mayor’s seat for Cotet. The Humanist Party of Moldova has said in a press release that it will convene its II Extraordinary Congress on Saturday, December 8, to consider a name change and promote new members. Oazu Nantoi didn’t say whether he would consider joining the Humanist Party.
