New clean-up project: City Hall offers materials, dwellers contribute with hands
The City Hall launched a new project, which is still unnamed. It concerns clean-up efforts of the apartment blocks that is supposed to be done by municipal services in collaboration with the dwellers. The initiative was presented Monday, June 12, during the City Hall meeting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca says the block entrances have been left in misery for 20 years and that the tax for buildings’ maintenance is too low: 1 leu per 1 square meter. He insisted citizens should know how this money is used.
His project stipulates that once in 2 weeks, or even weekly, 100 blocks should be cleaned-up. “We will create a public-private partnership: we provide the necessary materials, while citizens will give us some help with the workforce. It will be great if apartment owners’ associations involve. The heads of district offices will supervise the process.”
Petru Gontea, chief of the Communal Housing Department, explained that the funds raised for blocks’ maintenance were used for pre-winter preparations, roof restorations and so on. He mentioned that for already 2 years had been taking place the renovation of ground-floors. According to Gontea, there is not enough money for blocks’ clean-up and the current taxes cover only 1/3 of the necessary budget.
The clean-up works in the first 100 blocks will begin on July 5. The list of the buildings should be published by the end of the day on City Hall’s website- www.chisinau.md.
