The new Chisinau Municipal Council will be composed of six factions. The created factions and their composition were made public at the first meeting of the CMC, which was held on Thursday, June 28. The largest faction, composed of 16 councillors is that of the Party of Communists, and their leader is Svetlana Popa, who was the leader of the faction during the last period of the last mandate. The number of communist councillors has reduced compared with the previous composition of the CMC. The next largest faction is that of the Liberal Party – 11 councillors. The president of the party, Mihai Ghimpu announced that the leader of the faction was not selected yet because the councillor mandates were just received. The faction of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance includes 7 councillors, as compared with 14 in the former CMC. The leader of the faction is Pavel Caba, who held this office during the last mandate. The Social-Democrat faction is composed of five councillors, and the leader is Eduard Musuc, the leader of PSDM. The Social-Democrat faction includes three councillors representing the Social Democracy party and the Social Democrat Party. The faction of the Democrat Party also has five councillors. Councilmen Mihai Severovan representing the National Liberal Party joined the faction too. The leader of the factions is Alexandru Tanase. In the former CMC, the Democrat Party was represented by a single councillor. The smallest faction in the CMC is that of People’s Christian Democrat Party – composed of four persons, compared with eight in the old CMC. Alexandru Corduneanu remains the leader of the faction. Leader of the Humanist Party Ion Mereuta said that the two councillors representing the faction will not join any faction. The councillor on behalf of “Ravnopravie” Movement Valerii Klimenko made no statements on his affiliation. A faction can be created in the CMC by at least three councillors.
