New Chisinau Municipal Council constituted

The new Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) elected on November 5 was constituted. The first meeting of the new Council was held on Thursday and this was chaired by the oldest councilor, assisted by the youngest councilor attending the meeting. These are the councilors of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Galina Dragan and Daniel Rotaru, IPN reports.

In the meeting, the seats of councilor were validated and the lists of substitute candidates were confirmed. The PAS and the “National Alternative Movement” Party have by 20 seats of councilor. The Party of Socialists has six councilors, the Party of Communists – two councilors, while the Revival Party, the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” and Our Party have by one councilor on the 51-member CMC.

Attending the event, mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau Ion Ceban said that the people got tired of arguments, scandals and groundless accusations and wait for accomplishments. “I will do my best to be the mayor of all the inhabitants […] The people voted for us and put their trust in us so that we deliver results. It is what the people wait for the most. They also expect that we will show responsibility, political maturity, professionalism, involvement, dedication and work. We need to work a lot to solve the hundreds of problems we experience in the city,” stated the mayor.

PAS councilor Lilian Carp said that the Council should discuss the problems of the townspeople and the councilors should agree how Chisinau will look like, what should be done in this regard and how the councilors should interact.

Socialist councilor Igor Dodon noted that the councilors are different, with different views and ideologies, but the elections are over. The people expect good things to be done in Chisinau. The Socialists will support any project that is in the interests of the residents of Chisinau. “We are ready to cooperate with the executive and with any municipal councilor of this new composition,” he stated.

Communist councilor Diana Caraman said the local councilors were elected by the citizens and they should all be united. She urged the councilors to leave the ideological and geopolitical slogans aside and not to argue on subjects that do not have any connection with the problems encountered by the townspeople, but to concentrate on real issues.
