New chairman of Disciplinary College of Judges: “I think Ion Muruianu should resign”

“I think Ion Muruianu should resign if we aspire to live in a democratic state,” the new chairman of the Disciplinary College of Judges of the Supreme Council of Magistrates Nicolae Rosca said after he was elected to the post on February 16, Info-Prim Neo reports. The statement comes after the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruianu, during the general assembly of judges last weekend, said that the press in Moldova plays a diabolic and destructive role and described the journalists as “rabid dogs that become dangerous for the society through the lies that they spread.” “A judge is a wise man. Ion Muruianu's statement is not at all wise. As far as I know, he regrets what he said, but I think he regrets that the society understood him correctly,” Nicolae Rosca said. “Though he says that his statement was taken out of context, I read his report and understood that he said what he wanted to say. The content of the report shows that in many cases the press was right.” Dumitru Visterniceanu, the president of the Supreme Council of Magistrates, did not want to comment on Ion Muruianu's statement. He said the members of the Council submitted no application to examine the given case. Under the regulations, the Disciplinary College of Judges can examine a case only after at least three members of the Supreme Council of Magistrates ask for this. Nicolae Rosca, who is the vice president of the European Action Movement, was elected chairman of the Disciplinary College of Judges at a meeting on February 16. Tatiana Raducanu was voted in as vice chairwomen of the College.
