New campaign to curb speeding launched

A chain of supermarkets partnered with the authorities to launch a new campaign against speeding. Awareness-raising spots will run in the mass media and social media from August 18 to September 22, and leaflets will be distributed in the respective supermarkets.

In the first six months of this year, 117 people were killed and 1,150 others were injured on the Moldovan roads. Chisinau accounted for more than 40% of the total traffic accidents, said interior minister Pavel Voicu. The leading causes are speeding, driving under the influence, and failure to yield.

Angela Cutasevici, deputy mayor of Chisinau, considers that road safety involves education that begins in the family, continues throughout school, and is perfected in driving school. The fact that most accidents occur in Chisinau prompts the authorities to do more to increase road safety. Angela Cutasevici says the authorities’ goal is to build safe and accessible streets and educate traffic participants, with this campaign contributing to this end.

The campaign video centers on the experiences of drivers who caused accidents and how this changed their lives and the lives of others.
