New business incubator opened in Calarasi

A business incubator was opened in Calarasi on June 19. This will house over 20 companies that will create at least 60 jobs. Currently, 15 companies have the status of resident companies, five of which will work in the production sector, while ten in the service sector, IPN reports.

The incubator will provide logistic, counseling, training and financial services to companies and startups so that these could reach stability and autonomy.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmac, Minister of Economy, the business incubators are a business school and an example that should be followed all over the country. “There are now ten incubators in different district centers and I think it is a good experience for multiplying these practices in the other districts and municipalities of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Octavian Calmac.

Iulia Iabanji, director general of the Organization for the Development of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (ODIMM), said the business incubators are an efficient instrument for supporting SMEs at the stage of initiation and market entry through the creation of new jobs and revival of economies at the local level.

Aneil Singh, Head of the Operations Section of the EU Delegation to Moldova, said the entrepreneurs who will become residents of the business incubator will benefit from training, support and assistance in business from the European Union.

Head of Calarasi district Sergiu Artene said this incubator is important for the local community and for the formation of the economic basis of Calarasi district.

Business incubators were also opened in Soroca, Stefan Voda, Leova, Rezina, Sangerei, Cosnita, Ceadar-Lunga, Nisporeni and Cimislia. These housed 289 companies, 144 of which successfully passed the incubator stage. Through the business incubators, there were created about 950 jobs. One more business incubator is to be opened this year in Cahul town.

The network of business incubators in the Republic of Moldova was created by ODIMM in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and representatives of local public authorities, with support from the EU and the Government of Norway.
