New bridge across Nistru to be built at Cosăuți-Yampil border crossing

A bridge will be built across the Nistru River at the border with Ukraine, in the area of the Cosăuți-Yampil crossing. The bridge will be 641 meters long, have a lane in each direction, two safety lanes, two bike lanes, two sidewalks and an elevated road on the Ukrainian side, IPN reports.

“The construction of the bridge will ensure the connection of the road network through the eastern part of the Republic of Moldova to the international road network, which will meet the needs of citizens for mobility, facilitate trade in the domestic and international markets, and increase the role of Moldova as a link between the states of the European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States”, reads a draft decision precursory to the signing of an agreement with the Ukrainian government.

The funding for the construction of the bridge will be provided by Ukraine, and each government will be responsible for the construction of related infrastructure on its side.

At present, the Cosăuți-Yampil border crossing is serviced by a ferry.
