New ambassadors to Poland, Bulgaria and Hungary nominated

The Republic of Moldova will have three new ambassadors to Poland, Bulgaria and Hungary. The candidates were accepted by the Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration, IPN reports.

Violeta Agrici will serve as ambassador to Polanda, Emil Jacotă - to Bulgaria, Mihail Barbulat - to Hungary.

Violeta Agrici has a bachelor’s degree in public international law and a master's degree in the same field. She has been working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2007 and now heads the International Law Department. Between 2017 and 2022, she served as Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Kingdom of Spain and Permanent Representative to the World Tourism Organization.

Emil Jacotă has over 30 years of experience in the MFA. He heads a unit in the Bilateral Cooperation Division. Previously, Emil Jacotă worked at the embassies of the Republic of Moldova in Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and the Russian Federation.

Mihail Barbulat works as head of the State Diplomatic Protocol within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, in 2013 and 2014, he sat as an MP. In 2009, he was Minister of Culture and Tourism. Between 2005 and 2008, he served as Ambassador to Turkey, non-resident ambassador to Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, as well as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, presented the three candidacies and stressed that the appointment of the new ambassadors reflects the Republic of Moldova's commitment to strengthen its international presence by developing the bilateral relations and promoting national interests.

Under the law on diplomatic service, the proposals for the appointment of ambassadors are submitted to the Government by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, following consultations with the relevant parliamentary commission, and then the ambassadors are confirmed by the President of the Republic of Moldova.
