Neurologists discussing severe cerebral diseases in Chisinau
The 7th conference on Epileptology and the 4th conference on cerebrovascular diseases will hold its works for three days in Chisinau. The national conference with international involvement, organised by the League for Fighting Epilepsy and by the National Society for Cerebrovascular Accidents, headed by university professor, correspondent-member of the Academy of Sciences, Stanislav Gropa, will have ample sessions dedicated to the present issues in the neurosurgery domain, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the organisers, cerebrovascular accidents are the third leading cause of death in most of the industrialised states, after stroke and cancer. Over 19 thousand people had suffered cerebrovascular accidents last year in Moldova. This disease is the second leading cause of death in Moldova, and the main cause of severe disability of the young population able to work. At the same time, the death rate due to circulatory diseases, including stroke, represented 94.6%. The causes are the late visit to the doctor, the lack of a well staged organised work in the territory, the difficulties when applying the modern technologies of treatment, both the preserving and the surgical one.
Another issue is the epilepsy, which is among the first severe brain diseases to produce damages, social discrimination and stigmatisation. Epilepsy is occurring in 1% of the population, having a prevalence of 4-10 cases per thousand people, with 15% of the population suffering an epileptic crisis during their lives.
The participants in the conference will discuss these diseases and ways of their treatment, will justify the knowledge in this field, and will introduce new strategies and options in organising medical aid for these diseases. Renowned specialists from Germany, Romania, Switzerland, Israel, as well as 130 neurologists from Moldova are to take part in the Conference’s works.
The Conference will start its works on June 18 in “Joly-Alon” Hotel in the capital city.
