The Netherlands is ready to support Moldova during its presidency of the Council of the European Union, Dutch Ambassador to Romania and Moldova Stella Ronner-Grubacic, who is on a visit to Chisinau, said in a meeting with acting Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the officials spoke about the actions that can be taken to support Moldova’s European course after the Netherlands takes over the presidency of the Council of the EU on January 1, 2016. “The Netherlands is preoccupied with the situation in Moldova and wants to help you promote reforms and the European course,” said Stella Ronner-Grubacic. The diplomat underlined the importance of continuing reforms and ensuring the functionality of the state institutions.
The acting Premier noted the important role played by the Dutch investments and the substantial technical and financial assistance provided by the Government of the Netherlands to reform Moldova’s justice and banking sectors. Gheorghe Brega also thanked the Netherlands for the support provided to Moldova in its efforts to modernize and meet the European standards, reiterating the country’s interests in intensifying bilateral cooperation.
The Netherlands heads the rankings of foreign investors in Moldova. A number of 24 bilateral documented have been signed so far in such areas as reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, international road transport, avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion.
