Negotiators of new government met for talks

The leaders of the three parties – the PLDM, PDM and PL – that are negotiating the formation of the government coalition had meetings the last few days. After the meeting held in the evening of January 6, the leaders told the journalists that they discussed the distribution of state posts and the principles that will lay at the basis of the new coalition. However, after the January 8 meeting they said that they agreed not to make statements for the media. Both of the meetings took place at the head office of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), IPN reports.

After the January 6 meeting, the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat said the discussions will continue the next few days and they aim to create a stable and functional parliamentary majority. “The faster, the better. We realize that we do not have much time available and will thus move at the required pace,” he noted, saying a dialogue with the opposition is needed to ensure governance.

The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said the Parliament’s sitting will take place after they reach a political agreement. According to him, the sitting will take place next week at the latest. Asked if things at the talks move on, Marian Lupu said all the meetings end with particular results. “There can be movement backward too. It is important for this movement to be dynamic. There was movement this time too,” he stated.

“We must discuss everything because government means posts in the state. The posts must be distributed as one cannot be in government without posts,” said the leader of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu. He stated that even if there are different viewpoints, the meetings continue and this is the fifth meeting, but more discussions are needed.

After the January 8 meeting, the negotiators didn’t make many statements.  “We should avoid politics during the Christmas holidays. We can announce nothing now because we didn’t discuss politics,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.

“We agreed not to make statements as the discussions go on,” said the president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov. He noted that they discussed everything, including posts and conceptions, and the discussions go on.

“We agreed to make no statements. Excuse us,” said the deputy chairman of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet.

The three parties announced the initiation of the talks on the creation of a parliamentary majority on December 4.
