Negotiations on gas supply with Gazprom close to an end

The negotiations on the new contact for the supply of gas with Gazprom are coming to an end. The first results will become known next week, said Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who returned from a visit to a number of states, including Russia, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vlad Filat discussed the gas issue in the meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg. “The discussion was constructive. We agreed to negotiate a new contract for a period of five years. It may provide for a reduction in the price of gas,” the Premier said in a press briefing on Friday. The two officials also discussed the export of Moldovan wine products. “As a response to our request, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin gave orders and the license of the company that administers the importation of Moldovan wines into Russia through the Borovskii customs post in Moscow region was renewed for a five-year period. We thus avoided a halt in the export through this terminal,” said Vlad Filat, adding SA Cricova will soon resume the export of nonbottled wine to Russia. As to the agreement on the creation of a free trade area between the CIS countries that was signed at the Summit of CIS Heads of Government in Saint Petersburg, Vlad Filat stressed that the document will definitely foster trade in the region. “This will enable to create new workplaces and increase people’s incomes,” he said Speaking about his visit to Estonia, the Premier said that he took part in the Moldovan-Estonian Business Forum and met with representatives of the Moldovan diaspora there. The ministers signed four important agreements in education, culture, youth and sport, and on cooperation in the field of defense. “The Estonian businessmen expressed interest in developing partnership relations with Moldovan partners as Moldova is a bridge between the West and the East and has an attractive business environment,” he stated. Vlad Filat also visited Lithuania. He said he discussed a wide range of issues with Lithuanian officials, including the European integration process, Moldova’s reintegration, the commercial and economic relations and the prospects of cooperation in different areas. “This year, Lithuania has held the presidency of the OSCE and actively engaged in the process of resolving frozen conflicts. It also supported Moldova in the European integration process and will continue to provide support to us,” he said. A Moldova-Lithuanian Business Forum aimed at stimulating foreign investments to Moldova was held in Vilnius. Vlad Filat had been on a visit to the three countries during October 18-21.
