Negotiations between Carpov and Shanski without significant results

The new round of negotiations between the political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol – Eugen Carpov and Nina Shtanski – ended without significant results. In the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration expressed his regret at the Transnistrian side’s refusal to take part in the round of the Transnistrian settlement talks in the 5+2 format that was to take place in Vienna on September 11-12. For her part, Nina Shtanski said that Tiraspol is not ready to sit at the negotiating table as Chisinau continues to start criminal cases against members of the Transnistrian administration, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the Reintegration Office says the two officials continued the discussions according to the agenda agreed in the previous meetings. In particular, they considered the problem of Dubasari farmers’ access to their farmland situated beyond the Tiraspol-Camenca road and aspects of the economic interaction. It was agreed that the discussions on the issue will continue at expert level in the meeting of the working groups on economy, which is to take place in Tiraspol in the middle of September.

The political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol also discussed the latest steps taken to dismantle the industrial ropeway crossing the Nistru River. The works were scheduled to start on September 6.

Nina Shtanski told the Transnistrian media that Chisinau and Tiraspol look at the gravity of the problems in a different way. She insisted that the official Chisinau erects economic impediments in front of the businessmen from Transnistria.
