Negotiations are “on holiday”

The negotiations regarding the formation of the governing coalition are “on holiday”, according to first vice-president of the Liberal Party and its negotiator Dorin Chirtoaca. Meanwhile, representatives of the Democratic Party and of the Liberal Democratic Party told IPN that there isn't a date scheduled for the next meeting.

PLDM negotiator Iurie Tap says that no meeting is planned for this week. “We are working on our viewpoints, we are trying to find arguments and I think that everyone is trying to do the same. We are searching for solutions to the problems that are to be dealt with”, said Tap.

By the end of last week, another negotiator of PL, Valeriu Munteanu, told IPN that the parties had a lot of issues to discuss and that European rules say that as long as not everything is agreed – nothing is agreed. “We are at point zero. If PLDM and PDM show openness towards PL's proposed deep reforms, then all the doors are open”, said Munteanu.

PDM negotiator Sergiu Sarbu declined to comment on the negotiations. “As soon as we have new information, we'll tell you. At the moment, there's nothing to tell”, said Sarbu. Asked whether it would be possible to form a coalition by January 12-13 as previously announced, Sarbu said it would be nice if it happened. “It's important to have a result. It's not the speed that matters, but the result. We ask you to have a little more patience”, said the MP.

The start of the negotiations on the formation of a parliamentary majority was announced by the three parties on December 4.
