Needy families will receive digital terrestrial television adapters in line with national efforts to complete the shift to digital television by 31 December 2017. The initiative was proposed by the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure.
To qualify for the free adapters, the beneficiary families will need to have a functional TV set and prove their status by showing that they are recipients of social benefits. It’s estimated that around 70,000 adapters will be given out.
The initiative is now under public consultation and suggestions are welcome until August 30 at the following emails: vitalie.boboc@mtic.gov.md, and natalia.colesnic@mtic.gov.md.
Moldova is currently performing the transition from analogue to digital television to meet relevant international commitments. The new system is already available through the most part of the country. To receive the digital signal one needs a TV set supporting the DVB-T2/ H.265 standard or equipped with a corresponding adapter. Analogue broadcasting is to be ceased after the transition is completed on 31 December 2017.
