Needy children in Balti to be assisted by consulting commission
A consulting commission for protection of vulnerable children, created via a Government decision, will work in Balti under the supervision of the City Council.
8 members will form the commission – 2 appointed by the city council; 2 specialists (psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors or teachers), 2 members from local NGOs and 2 members recruited through a competition announced in papers.
The Commission will decide the optimal form of care to be provided to the children in need, considering his or her interests. Family-type services will be mostly preferred.
The members of the commission will monitor whether the child is free to express his own opinions and whether they are taken into consideration. If the Commission considers that the institutionalisation does not correspond to the child’s interests, it will issue notifications to the decision making bodies and request the re-examination of the case.
As an exception, the Commission will also examine the possibilities of reintegration of the institutionalised children into their biologic families.
The Commission will work on a volunteer basis.
