Approximately 700 teachers have been trained in the inclusive education of children with disabilities within a project financed by the Government of Japan. The initiators of the project aimed to strengthen the capacities of human resources in the area of inclusive education.
Angela Cara, project coordinator at the Public Association “Lumos Foundation Moldova”, which implemented the project, has told IPN that almost 700 teaches from 20 general schools were involved in the project activities that will serve as a support for the inclusion of about 300 children with special needs in the beneficiary pilot-schools. The results show that the training of teachers at the workplace is an efficient form of professional development.
“The staged training activities contributed to the development of skills that the teachers need in the process of including the children with special needs in general education. The mentor visits strengthened the capacities of schools, while the fact-finding visits to the pilot-districts Floresti and Ialoveni helped to learn from the experience and practices existing in the area of inclusive education,” stated Angela Cara.
The project “Integration of children with disabilities into general schools” is financed with the grant provided by the Government of Japan to Moldova within the Policy and Human Resources Development Fund that is administered by the World Bank. The project is managed by the Moldova Social Investment Fund.
