While street vendors crowd outside the Central Market displaying their stuff at makeshift stalls or right on the pavement, inside the Market there are nearly 1,000 stalls that remain vacant. Central Market director Ion Stratulat says that no requests to occupy the vacant stalls appeared even after the Municipality banned vending outside the Market, Info-Prim Neo reports. “If trucks or other vehicles are involved in vending, the Market's administration can offer vendors space on Carbunari Street, at the place known as the poultry market, where room is enough. Moreover, there is a wholesale market nearby. There is enough space for all the farmers and wholesalers who are willing to sell their products. But unauthorized trade in the center of the city must stop. If we continue like this, we'll come to see the National Great Assembly Square occupied by vendors”, said Ion Stratulat. Starting September 3, retail trade in industrial food and agricultural products at stalls and on the ground around the Central Market in Chisinau is forbidden under a mayoral ordinance.
